Our Mission, Vision, and Values

Mission

The Center for Advocacy, Resources & Education (CARE) provides anti-oppressive and trauma-informed primary prevention, education, and advocacy to UC Davis students, faculty, staff and affiliates who have been impacted by sexual assault, sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, intimate partner violence, stalking, and gender identity and sexual orientation based harassment. CARE approaches our work with dedication to honoring each individual for who they are, the identities they hold, and the intersections of their experience.

Vision

A campus free from violence and harassment, where each member of the community is respected and valued. We envision a community that collaboratively creates safety and ensures support to empower those impacted by all forms of oppression.

Core Values

Respect - we hold high regard for the feelings, wishes, and rights of the survivors we serve. We seek to meet people where they’re at and support them in their goals, without imposing our own judgment or objectives.

Collaboration - we know that the work of survivor support and violence prevention cannot be done alone. We value each opportunity to work jointly with campus and community partners, including survivors of violence themselves, to co-create an environment free from violence and harassment.

Cultural humility - we value the practice of self-reflection of our own identities and how the identities of others may impact their experiences. We celebrate the diversity of the community we serve, and we strive to make our educational programs and survivor services feel inclusive and welcoming.

Empowerment - we center survivors in every aspect of our work. We support survivor agency, defer to their expertise, and amplify their voices.

Empathy - we practice empathy by staying away from judgment, listening carefully, and connecting with our community through commonly shared emotions.
